The relationship you have with your dog equally involves two beings: you and your dog. Relationships, even with our dogs, are complicated, but we can help! We need to make sure that you both are feeling comfortable, safe, and are enjoying the relationship. Join us for a in person talk with Dr. Karen Griffin, PhD to learn five components to creating a positive relationship with your dog: body language, environment, agency and consent, positive reinforcement-based training, and expectations. In this talk, you’ll discover why these components are so integral to a positive relationship, as well as tips for how to implement them so that you’ll be on your way to having a happy you and a happy dog! Karen Griffin, PhD is a research scientist in the field of shelter dogs and dog rehoming, and the founder and Executive Director of The Dog Rehoming Project. She earned her doctorate in animal sciences at the University of Lincoln in Lincolnshire, England. The scope of her research experience and interest within this field includes how a dog fits into a home environment, what qualifies a successful dog placement, and how to improve the likelihood that a placement will be successful. Her research is based in both the US and Europe, and she is focused on the practical and real world applications of its findings, so that scientific evidence can be used to improve dog welfare. With a background in the social sciences, Karen employs an interdisciplinary approach to her research.
