The Council of Independent Black Institutions (CIBI) invites you to the 1st Annual Hannibal Tyrus Afrik Teacher Training Institute (TTI), a sacred gathering dedicated to strengthening the minds and spirits of those who teach, nurture, and lead Black children. Named in honor of ancestor Hannibal Tyrus Afrik, a visionary educator and freedom fighter who dedicated his life to the liberation of African people through activism and education. This teacher training institute carries forward his legacy of self-determination, cultural integrity, and collective upliftment.
This inaugural is designed to ground participants in the principles and practices of African-centered education while offering practical tools to transform classrooms, schools, and learning spaces. Through interactive workshops, community dialogue, and hands-on application, we will deepen our shared commitment to teaching in ways that reflect our highest values and ancestral wisdom.
Who Should Attend:
Administrators
Teachers
Parents
Homeschoolers
Community Educators
Youth Program Leaders
*Anyone committed to liberating the minds and uplifting the spirits of Black children
What You’ll Experience:
Workshops exploring African-centered pedagogy across subjects such as STEM, English Language Arts,
Sessions on cultivating school and classroom culture rooted in African values, community care, and good character
Guidance on how to sustain independent Black schools — organizationally, financially, and spiritually.
Collaborative learning spaces to apply what you learn and bring it home to your institution.
Community connection with educators, elders, and fellow builders dedicated to the same sacred mission
Why We Gather:
The Hannibal Tyrus Afrik Teacher Training Institute is more than professional development — it is a homecoming for those devoted to the sacred work of education as liberation. Together, we study, share, and build in the spirit of our ancestors who knew that teaching our children is both a duty and a divine calling.
We look forward to learning, growing, and building in community with you!
