We are elated to announce that Allegory will host the #1 Best Bar in the World in 2024, Handshake Speakeasy from Mexico City, for a Masterclass and Guest Shift on Monday, December 2nd!
Recently ranked the #1 Best Bar in the World and #1 Best Bar in North America by 50 Best Bars, Handshake Speakeasy also took home THREE Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, including Best International Bartender (Eric van Beek), Best International Bar Team, and World's Best Cocktail Menu! Needless to say, they have had one hell of a 2024!
Eric van Beek moved to Mexico City to open up the award-winning Brujas. Eventually, Eric partnered up with Marcos Di Battista and Rodrigo Urraca on a new, exciting project. Coming from the world of journalism, brand ambassadorship, and high-level PR, Rodrigo jumped at the opportunity to open a bar with Eric and Marcos. Together, they opened Handshake Speakeasy in the heart of Colonia Juárez in April of 2021, which has taken Mexico City and the world by storm!
Handshake's drinks appear minimalist, but given that head bartender Eric Van Beek uses advanced culinary techniques in prep, each drink is more complex than meets the eye, often taking 48 hours to craft from start to finish and boasting unexpected textures. There's an on-site laboratory that is nothing short of spectacular hidden at the heart of the bar where the team experiments daily.
