HANDS-ON HOUSTON: QUILT PATTERNS IN FELT

Join HCCC and the Community Artists’ Collective’s Jubilee Quilt Circle to make a mini felt quilt inspired by the summer exhibition, "Made to Last: The Legacy of the Jubilee Quilt Circle".
First, explore the exhibition, and get inspiration from the variety of techniques, colors and patterns in the works on view. Jubilee Quilt Circle members will also be demonstrating quilting and sewing techniques in the galleries. Then, create your own mini quilt based on traditional patterns using colorful, pre-cut felt shapes. Felt is an excellent starting material, making it easy to practice creating patterns, cutting fabric precisely, and planning for larger scale quilts.
Note: This activity will take place on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. The event is subject to change or cancellation in response to current COVID-19 conditions.
HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month. Each month, a teaching artist demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Families and children of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15 – 20 minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft. Learn more here.
Hands-on Houston is generously supported by Strake Foundation.
