Thinning is the most important cultural practice you can execute in your forest, reducing the tree-to-tree competition for “the goodies” and redistributing the sunlight, water, and soil nutrients to your most vigorous trees and preferred species. Learn how to judge the best trees to leave, and how to properly space trees to be healthy and to enhance wildlife habitat. Learn about commercial and non-commercial thinning. Learn to prune trees for improve wood quality, wildfire resilience, reduce risk of disease contraction, and improve the accessibility & attractiveness of your forest. Unite with agency landowner assistance staff and learn about programs that may help offset your costs for executing your forest management ideas.
This is a hands-on workshop, so bring a pruning saw if you have one! A variety of hand tools (saws, loppers) will also be available for you to try out.
