Join us for an exciting, hands-on workshop, in collaboration with our partners HumanBulb and Sactown Makers, where you'll build your own solar-powered phone charger and emergency light from scratch! Learn the basics of solar energy, electrical wiring, and soldering in an interactive environment designed to spark interest in clean technology. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore potential careers in clean tech and sustainability. Open to individuals aged 15 and up, this event equips participants with practical skills while providing valuable insights into the growing clean tech industry. No prior experience is required, and you’ll walk away with new knowledge and a functioning solar-powered device!
Instructor: Alan Ware
Alan Ware is a skilled technical instructor and mentor with extensive experience in engineering and manufacturing. As an Adjunct Faculty member at Folsom Lake College, he teaches courses on CAD/CAM programming and 3D design for additive manufacturing. Alan founded AMW Design in 2015, where he offers services in CAD modeling, prototype design, and manufacturing consulting. His work has impacted a wide range of individuals, from students to at-risk populations, helping them build essential technical skills. Alan’s expertise, combined with his role at Sactown Makers, empowers entrepreneurs and makers to succeed in the tech and design industries.

HumanBulb is a nonprofit organization dedicated to unleashing innovation through equity-focused entrepreneurship education and acceleration programs for both youth and professionals. Their mission is to empower underserved communities by teaching Innovation Entrepreneurship, with a special focus on girls, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ youth aged 13-18.
