THE ACTIVITY: In this hands-on event, participants are first guided through an enlightening education about the origins of cacao (with visual aids) to better understand how chocolates are labeled. Participants will then taste premium chocolates of varying cacao percentages and flavor profiles to understand the impact on a chocolate truffle recipe. Chef Zach will keep it fun and interactive by asking questions along the way as a friendly competitive exercise to test the group's taste perceptions. After learning about chocolate's natural flavors, your chocolate truffle-making expertise will be taken to the next level! Next, Chef Zach will demonstrate the recipe for making the perfect chocolate truffle with audience volunteer assistants, sharing tips and techniques used in professional chocolate shops. Next, the program becomes hands-on, as participants don chocolatier gloves, are paired together to create and name their own "chocolate shop," and roll and decorate their French-style chocolate truffles, which each person takes home (6 to 8 truffles per person) in their chocolate-colored bonbon boxes along with copies of two recipes for both milk and dark chocolate truffles. Groups are asked to share their chocolate shop names for more interactive fun and friendly competition.
