This course teaches the basic skills needed to safely handle and shoot a semiautomatic handgun. Ideally suited for people who have little or no experience with a handgun. Particular attention is paid to instruction for those who are nervous or fearful with firearms. This course also provides a foundation for the Texas License to Carry shooting proficiency test. Shooting fundamentals that are covered in class include: safety, eye dominance, grip, sight alignment (aiming), sight picture (aiming), trigger press, loading and unloading the handgun. Student safety and providing a positive learning environment are the basis of this course.*It is not necessary for students to purchase firearms and equipment prior to this class. One of the purposes of the class is to provide information so that students can make informed purchases.
