The purpose of this course is to create qualified handgun and rifle operators for advanced assignments, with instruction focused on applied concepts. Students will work through a variety of malfunctions, shoot from compromised positions, shoot on the move, and other tasks. A shooter with a strong base in the knowledge, skills and abilities required of the modern shooter will be able to readily take on additional learning topics from his host agency and outside training sources. It is assumed that students already possess a strong fundamental level of proficiency with both weapons. This is not a beginner’s course. KSAs presented in this course will be timed and tested within the parameters of established, nationally recognized drills and shooting tests. This is a physically demanding course. Students will be required to run as well as get into & out of compromised shooting positions safely with loaded firearms. The second day of training will include no & no light shooting. Quality weapon lights for the both platforms, as well as a handheld light will be required to successfully complete the course. Round count for the course is 400 rounds each of new manufacture range ammunition for the handgun and carbine. Absolutely no reloads are permitted. Students are encouraged to use the same equipment they will use on duty. Students who work in plainclothes assignments should follow this suggestion, as well. All students are expected to be familiar and proficient with their holster and magazine setup of choice. There will not be sufficient time in the class to go in depth on concealed carry methods, retention devices, etc. A complete equipment list will be sent out prior to the course. SERPA and similarly designed holsters are not permitted in the course. No exceptions will be made to this rule. If you are not sure whether this rule applies to you, please email us prior to the course date. We will make reasonable attempts to accommodate students with non-permitted equipment, but the student is responsible for verifying their compliance beforehand. A two-point sling setup for the carbine is strongly recommended. Weapon lights should be able to sufficiently illuminate targets up to 50 yards away to allow for positive target discrimination & identification.
