This talk, in partnership with Cambridge Handel Opera Company, by leading Handel scholar Ruth Smith asks why Solomon’s Temple (built c 1000 BC, destroyed 586 BC) is given so much space in Handel’s Solomon, and finds some unexpected answers in Halle, Hamburg, Dresden, the London Stock Exchange, Chiswick House and the ceiling of the Whitehall Banqueting House.
