About this Event
Eight singers from the Gramophone-nominated Ensemble Pro Victoria join with the period instruments of Endelienta Baroque, led from the keyboard by Endelienta's director Seb Gillot, in this elite performance of Handel's masterpiece about Christ's Nativity, Passion, Ressurection and Ascension.
Ensemble Pro Victoria
Founded in 2015 at Cambridge University by Humphrey Thompson and Toby Ward, Ensemble Pro Victoria is established as of Britain’s leading young vocal ensembles.
Named after a favourite Renaissance battle mass, the missa pro victoria by the great Spanish composer TL de Victoria, the ensemble won joint-first prize at the London International Festival of Early Music Young Ensemble Competition in 2020 and their first album, ‘Robert Fayrfax, music for Tudor Kings and Queens’ was received with critical acclaim in 2021, winning five stars from Choir and Organ and a Gramophone nomination. Their second album, Tudor Music Afterlives was released in October 2022.
Major highlights include Monteverdi Vespers in the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, performances at Opera North, Cambridge Early Music Festival, New College, Oxford and live broadcasts of Tudor Vespers and the Seven Joys of Mary on BBC Radio 3, from Hampton Court and St Albans Cathedral.
Endelienta Baroque
Founded at St Endellion, Cornwall, in 2017, Endelienta Baroque are an ensemble specialising in the performance on historically appropriate instruments of a wide variety of Baroque music. With an emphasis on thoughtful and heartfelt interpretation, we invite our audiences to participate in the joy and amicability we find when we play our instruments.
The ensemble's journey began with a concert in September 2017 in the collegiate church of St Endellion, North Cornwall, a place which has become something of a spiritual home for the ensemble. Since formation, Endelienta have given concerts up and down the country ranging from chamber music performances in small, intimate settings, to collaborative performances of larger vocal works.
