The topic of this hands-on class is the most fundamental of all woodworking joints: The Through Dovetail. Students will learn the basics of dovetail layout as well as basic saw and chisel control as we practice cutting many dovetails. Safety and tool selection will be discussed. A handout is provided detailing all of the steps covered in class as well as some suggested practical exercises to complete as "next steps" to guide your practice.Tools Required: Dovetail saw (western or Japanese), Sharp 1/2” & 1/4” chisels, mallet, marking knife, dovetail marker, pencil, marking gauge, fret saw or coping saw, eye protection, pocket knife and a pair of dividers.
