About this Event
What's It All About?
Spend a fun & relaxing half day hand crafting your own walking stick or staff, using basic hand tools and locally harvested poles.
On this fun and relaxed half day course you will be helped to whittle your very own short walking stick or longer walking staff. You will have a number of rods of timber to choose from, all sustainably harvested locally. There will be opportunities to add details and embellishments to your creation, and you will have created a truly unique stick.
A small range of hand tools are all that is needed, and you will be shown how to make safe use of edge tools such as carving knifes, palm gauges, and japanese pull saws. There will also be an opportunity to add a little 'fire' to you design!
This course is suitable for complete beginners, of those with a little carving experience.
This is a great way to unwind, connect with nature and explore your more creative side. The course will run from my woodland workshop in Ghyll Wood on the fabulous Wyresdale Park estate. This course will be based outside with an option to use our indoor space, equipped with wood burner, should the weather dictate.
