The Continental club is hosting an exhibit of North Carolina artist Frank Russell. Join us on Friday November 14th. from 6 to 8 PM. Frank Russell is a contemporary North Carolina artist known for his unique found object sculptures and abstract mixed media. Russell's most recognized pieces are three-dimensional "Outsider-esque" sculptures crafted entirely from scrap metal discarded objects and recycled "junk." His primary subject is marine life (sharks lobsters fish) inspired by his time on the coast. These works are celebrated for their inventive nature-and have been described as having a "punk" or "post-apocalyptic" aesthetic emphasizing the idea of material "rebirth." Before focusing on sculpture Russell worked for over 30 years as an abstract painter. His abstract canvases often feature unconventional materials like asphalt tar fabric and metal sheets bridging the gap between his painting practice and his later sculptural work. Russell’s creative process was driven by the influence of movements like Dada and the ethos of punk music continuously pushing the boundaries of the materials he finds.
