This summer award-winning theatre company Shakespeare at The George will be transporting the Court of Denmark to the atmospheric backdrop of the open-air courtyard at The George Hotel in Huntingdon, 34 years after last performing Hamlet in the town. Hamlet is a great Shakespearian tragedy punctuated with dark humour in which the characters weave an intricate web of intrigue, with mystery & conspiracy in abundance. Welcome to Elsinore, Denmark, where ghosts walk the earth, murder is committed, and a Prince must avenge his dead father. The battle between one man’s nature, conscience, and the weight of a father’s expectations, sets in motion a train of events that can only end in tragedy.
The open-air season of Hamlet will run from Tuesday 25th June to Saturday 6th July (excluding Sunday 30th June), and is generously sponsored by Urban & Civic. For the first time, the performance schedule includes a 2pm matinee on Saturday 29th June, providing an additional opportunity for more people to enjoy Shakespeare’s most performed play.
There will be a captioned performance on Tuesday 2nd July thanks to generous support from The Evelyn Glennie Foundation, making the production more accessible for those who have lost, or are losing, their hearing. And following the success of last year’s trial, a Touch Tour will be held prior to the show on Monday 1st July bringing the experience to life for blind and partially sighted theatre fans.
You may have read that 2024 is the final season that Shakespeare at The George will be performing at The George Hotel, so don’t miss out on your last chance to enjoy Shakespeare in this distinctive setting.
