About this Event

New York Times Critic's Pick "Breathtaking fireworks of creativity” - Le Monde

"Out of the ordinary!” - Les Echos

Come for a magical evening of large-scale shadow puppetry that will transport you into ancient worlds full of color, history and stunning imagery. An inspirational epic, from ancient Persia, comes to life in this stunning multi-disciplinary performance created through shadow puppetry, projected animation, music, movement, and theater. 483 handmade puppets are used to tell the story of Manijeh, a courageous heroine who uses her strengths and determination to rescue her beloved and help prevent a war. Adapted from the Book of Kings (Shahnameh), a historical and cultural touchstone that is a national treasure in Iran. Described by Le Monde as bursting with “breathtaking fireworks of creativity,” this one-of-a-kind multimedia experience celebrates culture, collaboration, experimentation, and unity.

Song of the North is created and directed by 2014 Guggenheim Fellow Hamid Rahmanian (Feathers of Fire). The original score is written and orchestrated by Loga Ramin Torkian, featuring vocalist Azam Ali. The ensemble includes Ray Dondero, Sam Jay Gold, Harrison Greene, J Hann, Esme Roszel, Caroline Pasture, Sarah Walsh, Clay Westman, and Christopher Williams.

1:30 PM– 2:30 PM: Bring your kids to our fun-filled Creative Station before each matinee. Kids can engage with our puppeteers, explore the magic of shadow play and make their own puppets. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Adult supervision is required. Limited capacity. Purchase your ticket today.
