Hamden Symphony Orchestra will begin its 63rd season with “Reverberations,” at a special location, New Haven’s Trinity Lutheran Church, on Sunday, November 24th at 3:30 PM. This performance includes the powerful Symphony No. 3, “Organ” of Camille Saint-Saëns, with Susan Drexel-Paisley, the Orchestra’s former concertmaster, performing on the Church’s historic pipe-organ.
The largest group in the Orchestra’s history, Hamden Symphony’s 90+ all-volunteer musicians have been working on a unique program that crosses different sonorities and ensemble-configurations. Alex Tucker-Slap, former flautist with HSO, will perform the American premiere of the Suite for Flute and Strings by New Haven-based composer Sandy Mehinovic.
The Orchestra’s winds, brass and percussion sections will open the concert with two works; Caccia and Chorale, a signature of the concert-band repertoire by American composer Clifton Williams, and accompanied by a small-choir, a setting of “Let Nothing Ever Grieve Thee”, a hymn of Johannes Brahms.
