About this Event
Overview
“Hallowe’en Revels: Seance and Secrets” spotlights live theater with a historical Halloween twist. Hosted in partnership with Sweet Tea Shakespeare, the Night Tours will take place October 10-11 and 17-19 from 6:00-10:00 pm. Proceeds from ticket sales directly fund this event and other programs at the 1897 Poe House.
Driven by grief by the recent departing of her beloved husband, Mrs. Poe invites famed medium Madame Graham into her home to help her commune with her lost love. In attendance are some of Fayetteville’s most prominent community members (including all of you!). Delve into the motivations behind the Victorian spiritualism movement, how mediums performed tricks that deceived their viewers, and the counter movement that came about to expose mediums as frauds in this 45 minute interactive theatrical experience at the 1897 Poe House. This is a unique opportunity to experience historical theater in an actual historic home. The tours are open to people of all ages. For a more detailed look at the Poe House and family history, attend a tour during regular museum hours.
Tickets can be purchased in advance, or through Eventbrite only. Time slot exchanges may be possible based on availability, but to guarantee your reservation arrive for time slot purchased. Ticket holders should arrive at least 10 minutes before show time, late arrivals cannot be admitted once the group enters the 1897 Poe House. Due to tight space inside the house, shows are limited to 15 people per group.
Ticket holders should be able to walk/stand and navigate stairs for the duration of the show (45 minutes). This is not a seated performance.
This project is supported by the Arts Council in part by contributions from businesses and individuals, and through grants from the City of Fayetteville, Cumberland County and the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Cultural Resources. Matching funds are being provided by the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex Foundation, Inc.
