What can you anticipate on this night adventure?Come with Drew and myself as we journey into the dark! The main focus will be on conquering your fear of the dark. This event is not suitable for first time paddlers as strong paddling skills are essential for surviving the evening.
Embark on a 6km journey down the lower Pitt River, navigating the edges of marshland in the darkness with only a headlamp to light your way.
While our experienced guides will lead the way, not everyone will emerge unscathed and dry if they stray from the group.
Proper lighting is crucial for this excursion. We recommend using headlamps with a map light feature and a minimum of 100 lumens. It is also advisable to bring a backup light. Each participant will be provided with a glow stick to help us keep track of everyone throughout the evening.
What to bring.
Bring courage and Holy water if you’re religious.
Bring your paddle board, PFD, leash, and whistle.
Headlamp with map light feature is must and required to preserve the ambient surrounding / 100 lumens min.
Optional Secondary light- hand held or sup mounted.
Pack a dry bag with 3 litres of fluids, toiletries, snacks and your last meal.
Extra batteries or a power bank to charge your lights in case they run out of power.
Dress appropriately in fall/winter paddling attire. Dry suits, Bibs, Jane & John wetsuits or wetsuit bottoms, dry boots or neoprene wet shoes, layered clothing, and a hat or toque to protect against the chill of the dead night air.
If your sup is equipped with a seat or kayake conversion this is ideal for it and recommended to enjoy the night ride home.
The marsh is a stunning location during the day, but a night tour accompanied by the sounds of nocturnal creatures will offer a unique perspective. Stay alert and check those corners for anything that may be hiding behind tall grass or lurking in the shallow waters as we navigate the 4.5km lazy river home in the dark.
During the fall season, the marsh's exit may be dry unless heavy rain causes it to blood …I mean flood!
Be prepared for fin removal as we work together to escape and navigate our way out through a narrow passage.
In the spirit of Halloween season
