A location with a Haunting past that should not be missed! Who are these resident ghosts and why do they still haunt this building? Do you dare to join us on our Halloween Ghost Hunt?Staveley Hall is located in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Recognized as a grade II listed building dating from the 17th Century, this extraordinary location has an intriguing history that dates back to the time of the Norman Conquest. Built in 1604, the initial hall suffered partial destruction by the early 1800s. In 1867, Sir George Gilbert Scott revitalized the building, focusing mainly on the renovation of the façade and the interior, where the staircase with stone arches is likely designed by him.
According to the Doomsday Book, William the Conqueror granted Hascoit Musard de Bretagne and several of his relatives 25 manors across six counties in England in recognition of their contributions to his army during the Battle of Hastings. Despite owning so many manors, Hascoit opted to make Staveley his primary family home, asserting that it was the most impressive and spacious.
Staveley Hall is linked to several significant historical events and figures, such as the Brontës, the Gunpowder Plot, and the English Civil War. It is said that numerous former inhabitants of this eerie structure continue to roam its corridors and chambers, with reports of shadowy figures, light fluctuations, as well as sounds like taps, knocks, and disembodied voices.
Located beside the Hall, Staveley Church, was established in 1280 AD. Unfortunately, a priest passed away, after being struck by lightning that entered through a stained glass window during a storm. It is thought that his spirit haunts both the Church and the grounds of Staveley Hall. Spectral figures are reported to wander the grounds, and strange noises, such as furniture being moved from locked rooms, have been experienced by visitors. Who might you meet on this ghost hunting adventure?
