Written during the final year of World War 2, Richard Strauss' deeply moving work for 23 strings players is a lament to the colossal destruction of his beloved German cities. Together with Richard Jenkinson, the Hallam Sinfonia Strings have been working on this beautifully poignant piece—
Passionately led by the brilliant and multi-talented musician, Richard Jenkinson, the Hallam Sinfonia Strings have been working hard outside of orchestra rehearsals to bring this wonderful piece to life.
As well as having the privilege to work in depth on such a fascinating and important piece, we also want to acknowledge the sad mirroring of our current time and back in 1944; devastating destruction is still very much happening in our world, and perhaps we need a Metamorphosis of our own...
Written for 23 string parts, Metamorphosen is unique in it's rich complexity and is rarely performed here in Sheffield. The beautiful Channing Hall will provide the perfect venue for this intimate concert. the space filled with light and stunning music to lift the new year's darkness.
We will perform Metamorphosen alongside two other beautiful pieces for string only repertoire, Elgar's sumptuous 'Serenade for Strings' and one of Mozart's joyous Divertimenti.
Tickets are limited and will only be available in advance
£15 adults and £5 students and under 18s
Doors open with a hot drink at 2:30pm. The concert will start at 3pm and will last just over an hour.
We cannot wait to bring all our hard work behind the scenes to life, all with Richard at the helm.
