Come join us for an afternoon of learning and fun.
We welcome Belly Dancers and Middle Eastern Drummers of all skill levels! The Half Moon Hafla is hosted by Belly Dancer Alexis Parkhurst and Drummer David Budd.
Location: The Lace Mill: 165 Cornell Street, Kingston, NY, 12401
Note: Please park on the street, NOT in resident parking!!!
Schedule:
11:00am-11:45am: Potluck
11:45am-12:30pm: Dance and Drumming Instruction: Dave will work on teaching, practicing, and combining common middle eastern drum rhythms. Alexis will provide casual instruction to beginner dancers on movement options to the rhythms being provided.
12:30pm-1:30pm: Drumming and Dancing circles: Drummers will play combinations of the rhythms they have learned and dancers will be encouraged to improvise.
BYOD (Bring your own drum)
Please bring a drum if you have one, and an additional drum to share if you are willing.
As noted we will be having a small potluck. Please include information in the registration form if you would like to bring something to share. If possible, please bring a list of ingredients so those with food allergies can be informed.
Entrance fee: $10 (cash at the door)
Guidelines:
Bring water
Bring a Drum - preferably a doumbek, riq, or djembe
Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the entirety of the event
