Join DSA in reading Half Earth Socialism!"Half-Earth Socialism is a radical call to action to save the planet, including proposals to rewild half the earth to absorb carbon emissions and restore biodiversity; rapidly transition to renewable energy, paired with drastic cuts in consumption; and shift to global veganism to reduce energy and land use. As this thrilling and provocative book makes clear, we must humbly accept that humanity cannot fully understand or control the earth — but we can plan new energy systems, large-scale rewilding, and food production for the common good."
Whether we agree with the authors' proposals or not, the ultimate goal is to practice envisioning what an equitable, sustainable, socialist world would look like, with this as a jumping off point. As we read and discuss, we will further our political education and build community in the Greater Lansing area around shared values.
We will break up the discussion in to two meetings:
September 27th at 11:00 at Strange Matter Downtown- We will discuss the first half of the book (introduction, part 1, and part 2)
October 25th at 11:00 at Strange Matter Downtown- We will discuss the remainder of the book (part 3 and 4)
