So, a little over a year and a month from now, Germany will be hosting the Euro Cup. I have spoken to some Heidelbergers (Jordan, Jameel, Sam, and Rashad), and we all plan on being there for the first week of the tournament—running around downtown, getting drunk at the river/arches, and making very questionable decisions like it was high school all over again.
I will 100% be there, but I figured this is as good an excuse as any to try and rally the troops for a half-assed attempt at a "reunion." So, I decided to go ahead and send a general invite to get it on people's radar. I think a little over a year should be more than enough time to plan something out.
Between Germany hosting the World Cup in 1974 and 2006, there was a 32-year gap. Similarly, between the last time Germany hosted the Euro Cup in 1988 and 2024, there will be a 36-year gap. Based on that, it will be the last time in our "youth" that we will get to experience Germany hosting a major tournament. If you were around in 2006 for the World Cup, you'll know how much fun that was. I am really looking forward to running down the Hauptstrasse, waving our flags, singing chants, and partying the night away after watching the matches at an open-air fan fest.
I know everyone has their own lives now, a lot of people with full on families and other commitments, so don’t worry if you can’t make it. I just know it will be a great time and I’d love it if we could get a group of people to just have a few days of partying, catching up, and reliving the past for a bit.
The tournament is being held June 14th - July 14th but the first week of group matches gives us the opportunity to catch multiple games in a week.
