Experience the Character, Heart and Spirit of the Haka

Saturday 24th August - 10am to 4pm

Mel Lehan Hall, St James Community Square, 3214 W 10th Ave, Vancouver

CELEBRATE THE ENDURING SPIRIT OF YOUR LINEAGE & THE COLLECTIVE STRENGTH OF WARRIOR WOMEN

Come and join us to learn and experience the transformative power of haka through the Women's Warrior Dance and embody the essence, virtues and intrinsic strength of Ngā Hine Atua - the Female Deities.

The Women’s Haka is a traditional dance that invokes and expresses a woman's potency, power, virtues, culture, lore, and sacredness. It is the summoning of her strength and spiritual power and is a display of unison.

In the WOMEN’S HAKA WORKSHOP, Māmā Mihirangi & the Māreikura share the empowering art of haka, a cultural journey that embodies the strength and spirit of Mana Wāhine – the prestige, power and authority of the feminine. Through Māori cultural practices, Mihirangi unveils the rich history, meaning, and power behind the haka, guiding participants to channel their inner strength and express themselves through their lineages with confidence and pride. Join Mihirangi in discovering the empowering essence of the haka—a transformative journey where women embrace their strength, unity, and femininity in a celebration of power and resilience.

Participants will learn the calls, actions, words & their history, meaning, traditions, protocols and power. There are traditional and contemporary haka for many occasions and women have always had their own haka that invokes and expresses their potency, her power, virtues, culture, lore, and sacredness.

This workshop is designed to empower all Women, inspiring a deep connection to heritage and encouraging the embodiment of inclusive wisdom and virtues. Through our traditions, we aim to reawaken the sacred potency of feminine lineages, to heal, celebrate, and uplift our collective identities from a Wāhine Māori perspective. By teaching and sharing this haka, we offer our allyship and solidarity, fostering mutual understanding and respect, and acknowledging and celebrating each other’s achievements and roles within our communities, for our people, and families.

We welcome all women to come and join us in this enriching experience, to learn about Māori culture, and to explore how these teachings can resonate with and empower your journey.

No singing or dancing experience is necessary. Mauri Ora.

Creating inclusion, empowerment, and cultural pride for all Women.
