HABITAT is an artistic jewelry design project featuring insects in their natural environments, exploring themes of survival and creativity.
About this Event

Tina Gjersen-Sav is a Danish jeweler who explores the creativity of insects through classical goldsmithing techniques, crafting tiny creatures with distinct traits like stubbornness, vigilance, sensitivity, and charm. Her work serves as an artistic response to the coexistence challenges faced by insects and humans on the same planet, weaving a narrative that reflects this dynamic.

Tina Gjersen-Sav’s artistic practice is rooted in her love for nature, both in spirit and material. She embodies a quiet philosopher who contemplates the diversity of life, drawing inspiration from the everyday lives of insects, their survival mechanisms, and themes of war and love. Within the intricate universe of insects lies an impressive wealth of detail; their beautiful wings and vividly colored bodies tell rich stories. Through her exploration of entomology, she discovers a creativity that often surpasses ordinary human imagination. This serves as her foundation for intertwining the characteristics of insects with human life, highlighting the challenges of coexistence.

In her workshop, she gathers thoughts, inspirations, and ideas from her sketchbooks, along with natural materials she encounters. Working narratively, she experiments with various solutions, ensuring that each handmade element of her pieces is deliberately crafted to enhance the overall story.

Each November, NYC Jewelry Week proudly presents ‘The Week,’ a 7-day celebration dedicated to the art of jewelry. This annual event invites a global audience to explore the world of jewelry through a dynamic mix of in-person and virtual experiences, spanning New York City and beyond.
