What is Demo Day?

Demo Day is an opportunity for founders and developers in the Habibi Tech community to introduce their fellow community members to the real world problems that they've taken an interest in solving, along with their tech-driven approach to solving it. For each Demo Day, we select a handful of presenters to give a strict 10 minute startup pitch where they describe:

1. The problem they're solving,
2. Their solution,
3. Their team, and
4. Their traction so far.

The goal of Demo Day is for founders and social impact entrepreneurs to receive constructive feedback from an expert panel of judges and from the Habibi Tech community which will help them on their way to success. This is not a startup pitch for a financial prize, although presenters may get lucky and impress some of the angel and institutional investors who attend as judges and as guests in the Habibi Tech crowd.

Impact in Markets and SocietyIn contrast to your typical startup pitch where founders compete for a financial reward, Demo Day is aimed at empowering presenting teams with feedback from seasoned founders, developers, and investors from our community which will help them to achieve their goals.

Another key distinction between Demo Day and a typical startup pitch is that the latter often centers on market viability. While success in entrepreneurship is a leading goal within our community, we recognize that Habibi Tech innovators often have diverse motivations for developing exciting tech, including social impact causes that are best evaluated with lenses beyond viral user adoption and profitability.

For this reason, Habibi Tech Demo Day presents you with an opportunity to receive two degrees of feedback when presenting.

1. Panel of Experts: Each pitch is given dedicated feedback from a diverse panel of experts with experience in entrepreneurship, investing, and social impact
2. The Crowd: In addition to the judges, the highly diverse and insightful crowd weighs in on every pitch, giving presenting teams a wildcard of feedback.

Due to time constraints, we expect to receive more outstanding submissions than we can accommodate for any one Demo Day. If your pitch isn't selected this time, we may select you for a future edition. Nevertheless, we encourage you to follow up with another submission for the next Demo Day, including any pivots and additional traction you and your team have made since first applying.
