The Hāwera Christmas Parade takes place the second Saturday in December at 12pm. All floats are to meet in the Napier Street Carpark by 11am so our judges can spend time allocating prizes.
This year the theme is "Santa's Little Helpers" which can be interpreted in many ways. Anything Christmas is valid so get your thinking cap on and gather your groups or business to be in to win. We are trialing slightly different categories this year.
Float Prizes: $400 to each.
Best Community Float
Best Business Float
Best Christmas Themed Float
Best Educational Provider Float
Each Category must have a minimum of two entries. If we do not receive enough valid entries per category, the organiser will ask the judges to gift the prize money to a second entry in another category.
Please register your float by emailing: [email protected] where you will be sent an entry form to sign that has the rules listed below.
Each float must allocate a representative and they are responsible for the below list of EXPECTED CONDUCT/ RULES:
Participants & vehicles must make an effort to be costumed/decorated in the spirit of the event. This includes all sign-written vehicles.
No other representations of Santa Claus/ Father Christmas other than the one on the Bizlink Hawera Sleigh.
Parade management reserves the right to deny your float entry if it could be interpreted as being 'offensive'. This includes racist, sexually inappropriate, insulting, or illegal. Any offensive language will result in participants being denied 'future' participation.
NO THROWING of sweets, handouts, or other objects.
Float walkers - Can pass items out!
Parade management allocates 'wheel watchers' for oversized vehicles. Please notify Bizlink Hāwera if you require safety personnel allocated to your float.
Once your float has entered the parade route NO PERSON will board/exit your float until the end of the parade. The parade travels from Napier Street onto High Street and ends at Argyle Street.
All float entries must adhere to the road rules when travelling to and from the parade start/ finish area.
All vehicles must be road-legal with current registration and WOF.
No unsafe and unrestrained travelling to and from the parade.
