Join us for a hands-on, 4-hour Gyotaku workshop where you’ll dive into the ancient Japanese art of fish printing. Taught by expert instructors Sherry Lee Duncan and Larry Treuber, this class will guide you through the steps of creating your own stunning fish prints on oriental rice paper.Working in pairs, you’ll learn how to:
• Pin a gutted fish onto styrofoam for printing
• Apply traditional inks to the fish
• Make a beautiful fish print
• Add intricate details like painting the eye
You’ll also explore advanced techniques like printing a school of fish, creating ghost prints, and more. There will be a quick break at the two hour mark, so you’ll have plenty of time to absorb the techniques and get creative! Please bring your own drinks and snacks to enjoy during the break.
Whether you’re a beginner or have experience with printmaking, this workshop is a fun and unique way to explore the world of Gyotaku. All materials provided.
