Thomas Gravesen and Lee Carsley are to be reunited on the Goodison Park pitch, with one of the most notable midfield pairings of the David Moyes era set to appear at the first in a series of star-studded events that will celebrate the iconic stadium.
Everton’s 1995 FA Cup hero Daniel Amokachi, one-club man Tony Hibbert and popular Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic will join Gravesen, Carsley, members of Sean Dyche’s Senior Men's Team squad and special-guest host Leon Osman on Wednesday 21 August for Gwladys Street Presents: Cult Heroes.
The event will see a giant stage erected on the Goodison turf and fans pack the Howard Kendall Gwladys Street End to enjoy never-heard-before stories from the Club’s past and reflect on all that has made the Grand Old Lady great.
More stellar names – including the present-day players involved - will be revealed in the coming weeks as the full line-up for Gwladys Street Presents: Cult Heroes is confirmed.
Tickets for the event – and a similar Everton Giants edition of the series on Wednesday 16 October – are on sale now, with Season Ticket, Hospitality and Official Members having a two-day priority window to secure their seat ahead of general sale commencing at 10am on Friday (28 June)*.
Promising an emotive and amusing walk down memory lane, the events will allow Evertonians to grab a drink, take a seat in the Gwladys and relive some of the best - and lesser known – tales from the stadium’s illustrious past. Protective flooring will allow the giant stage to be put in place, as the Grand Old Lady is temporarily turned into a Blues-inspired theatre.
“I honestly can’t wait for it,” said Osman, who has gone on to become a respected pundit and presenter since racking up 433 Everton appearances. “I’m really excited about the evening and being back at Goodison Park in front of a packed Gwladys Street. My old teammates Tommy Gravesen and Lee Carsley are no doubt going to be brilliant, and I can’t wait to get into some of their best stories.
“And Ammo!! I remember Daniel Amokachi from my time as a young player at the Club and he's someone who had a huge impact. I think everyone recalls him for the charisma he showed on and off the pitch and I can’t wait to interview him on stage.
“I’m lucky to know some of the other guests who are signed up and Evertonians definitely won’t be disappointed.”
Denmark international Gravesen became a fan favourite during his four-and-a-half years at Everton, before sealing a high-profile move from Merseyside to Real Madrid in January 2005. Carsley, meanwhile, enjoyed six years with the Blues after arriving from Coventry City in 2002, with both players having a role in Everton securing a remarkable top-four finish and first-ever Champions League qualification in the 2004/05 season.
Amokachi was part of the team that famously defeated Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United to lift the FA Cup at Wembley in 1995 but will forever be remembered for his two-goal salvo off the bench to complete a 4-1 win over Tottenham in the semi-final at Elland Road.
Supporters should keep an eye on evertonfc.com and official Club social media channels for news of further top-name guests in the coming weeks.
