Recording for Blue Note and Verve labels, Henderson was known both for his sensitive ballad playing and his aggressive approach to improvising bebop and swing. He developed into a hugely influential jazz force and, late in his career, offered an album of his own arrangements for large ensemble called “Big Band” (1996). Having collaborated with Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, and scores of other jazz pioneers, Henderson was honored in 1999 as an NEA Jazz Master. Olson and Dimery combine their talents to bring Greenville an outstanding display of Henderson’s genius.
