GUNSET: Defensive Pistol Application

Most courses focus on the elements of pistol craft: accuracy, recoil control, draw stroke, malfunction clearing, magazine exchanges, etc... These are essential skills that armed citizens must posses. This class puts those skills in context with real world application. If your attacker has the element of surprise, you must interrupt their thought processes by quickly overcoming the attacker's advantage with action of your own. If you find yourself injured, knocked flat on your back, or behind cover, you must adapt to that situation.

Simply put, winning a gunfight is about making decisions quickly, adapting to the rapidly unfolding chaos, and reacting before your adversary.

In this course, you will employ your firearm from various positions of postural instability, and work through problem solving in the context of armed conflict. There will be a lot of getting down on the ground and getting back up, so please keep that in mind if you have any physical limitations. This is not an entry level course. You must have completed Pistol Standards, or some other comparable pistol course from a reputable training company, and have a solid grasp of the fundamentals (safely drawing, holstering, accuracy, recoil control, malfunction clearing, reloading, etc...) Required Equipment:

- Functional Handgun (and a backup if possible)

- Quality IWB/OWB/AIWB holster. We do not allow any holster with a retention device deactivated by the trigger finger (i.e. Blackhawk Serpa). Your holster must retain it's shape with the pistol withdrawn. Please do not bring cheap junk holsters or you will not be able to participate in class. If you have any questions about your holster, please contact us. We highly recommend JM Custom Kydex, Tier 1 Concealment, and Keepers Concealment.

- 300 Rounds of quality FMJ ammo.

- Minimum 2 extra magazines (more is better)

- Water/Gatorade and a packed lunch

Suggested Equipment:

- Belt mounted magazine pouch(es)

- Personal IFAK/Trauma Kit (this should be required. If you don't have one or know how to use a trauma kit, take our Real World Trauma Course ASAP)

- Lawn Chair

- Sunscreen

- Speed loader
