Katedra skladby HAMU ve spolupráci s INTERNATIONAL SHAKUHACHI FESTIVAL PRAGUE zve ve dnech 20.–24.2. na jedinečný cyklus přednášek a kreativní workshop Gunnara Jinmei Lindera.FOR ENGLISH, PLEASE SCROLL DOWN
Přednášky jsou otevřeny veřejnosti a studentům všech tří fakult AMU, budou probíhat v angličtině. Budou vypsány v KOSu jako 2 moduly po 1 kreditu (1.přednášky, 2. realizace díla na koncertě)

První část se skládá ze čtyř přednášek (podrobnost v angličtině níže). Cílem je představit estetiku tradičních japonských performativních umění se zaměřením na kata – pojem označující formalizované vzorce fyzických pohybů i zvukových klastrů, a ma – pojem označující nefixovaný časový interval.
Po absolvování čtyř přednášek budou mít studenti za úkol do konce května vytvořit krátké dílo (hudební skladbu či jiné dílo dle svého zaměření) vycházející z obsahu přednášek a také krátkou sebereflexi o tom, jak obsah přednášky dílo inspiroval.
Díla by měla být předvedena v podání studentů AMU na koncertě 20. června 2025 v Divadle Inspirace v rámci ISFP.
Gunnar Jinmei Linder začal hrát na šakuhači v Japonsku v roce 1985, kde studoval u Yamaguchi Gorō. Získal titul MFA jako sólista na Tokijské univerzitě umění a od Yamaguchiho získal titul shihan a jméno Jinmei. Než se Linder vrátil do rodného Švédska, dvacet let profesionálně vystupoval a vyučoval v Japonsku. Nyní pravidelně vystupuje a vyučuje po celé Evropě. Linder je držitelem doktorátu z japanologie a působí jako docent v oboru japonských studií na Stockholmské univerzitě, kde aktivně vede výzkum, např. Poznámky o Kinko-ryū Shakuhachi Honkyoku (2011); Dekonstrukce tradice v japonské hudbě (disertační práce, 2012); Jiuta Sōkyoku Lyrics and Explanations (Christopher Yohmei Blasdel, 2024). Vyučuje také na Královské hudební škole ve Stockholmu, pokud je potřeba učitel šakuhači. Linder má na svém kontě také řadu nahrávek. V roce 2016 mu bylo uděleno Vyznamenání japonského ministra zahraničí za jeho kulturní a vědeckou činnost.

The Department of Composition of HAMU in collaboration with the INTERNATIONAL SHAKUHACHI FESTIVAL PRAGUE invites you to a unique series of lectures and a creative workshop by Guner Linden on February 20-24.
Japanese Aesthetics: From the Nō theater to the single sound
The lectures are open to public and students of all three faculties of AMU and will be held in English. They will be listed in KOS as 2 modules of 1 credit each (1. lectures, 2. realization of the work in concert).

The first module consists of four lectures. The aim is to introduce the aesthetics of traditional Japanese performance arts with focus on the kata – a concept denoting formalized patterns of both physical movements and sound clusters, and ma – a concept denoting a non-fixed time interval.
After the completion of the four lectures, students will have possibility to enroll in the second module and until the end of May compose a short piece of music or other work based on the content of the lectures, as well a short self-reflection on how the lecture content inspired the composition.
The short compositions should be performed in a specially assigned concert on June 20th 2025 during ISFP.
Gunnar Jinmei Linder began shakuhachi in Japan in 1985, studying with Yamaguchi Gorō. He obtained an MFA degree as a soloist from Tokyo University of the Arts, and was awarded shihan and the name Jinmei from Yamaguchi. Linder performed and taught professionally in Japan for twenty years before returning to his native Sweden. He now performs and teaches regularly throughout Europe. Linder holds a PhD in Japanology and is working as Associate Professor in Japanese Studies at Stockholm University where he is actively conducting research, for example: Notes on Kinko-ryū Shakuhachi Honkyoku (2011); Deconstructing Tradition in Japanese Music (PhD diss., 2012); Jiuta Sōkyoku Lyrics and Explanations (Christopher Yohmei Blasdel, 2024). He also teaches at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm when a shakuhachi teacher is required. Linder has also made numerous recordings. In 2016 he was awarded the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation for his cultural and academic activities.

February 20
L1: A lecture covering the background and the historical socio-cultural setting of the Nō theater, as well as the aesthetic principles as expressed in the writings of the 15th century dramaturg Zeami Motokiyo.
L2: A lecture covering the background and the historical socio-cultural setting of the Bunraku puppet theater, as well as the aesthetic principles as expressed by the 17th and early 18th century dramaturg Chikamatsu Monzaemon in the writings of his student Hozumi Ikan.
February 21
L3: This lecture focuses on a selected number of song texts of the genre jiuta-sōkyoku ensemble music from the book Jiuta Sōkyoku Lyrics and ExplanationsSongs of the Floating World (Blasdel and Linder, 2024). The aim is to discuss the connection between semantic content of the natural language (the song text) and the audial content (the sound patterns).
February 24
L4: The final lecture will focus on a theoretical discussion on patterns of formal sound clusters, kata, and rhythmical patterns, ma. In this lecture, the previous three lectures will be revisited, to indicate how the concepts kata and ma are part of a varied palette of mediated expressions.
