About this Event
This class discusses the layout of the fretboard in 3 major scale shapes, chord spellings (major and minor), and how the line of fifths (circle of fifths cut into a straight line) show you how many sharps and flats are in each key. From there we apply these concepts together to give freedom of improvised playing by virtue of knowing how to spell chords and scales. Additionally, we will learn how the 3 scale shapes can turn into 6. Other topics discussed will include relative minor/major scale relationships, and the chord qualities up the major scale. If enough time is available, additional topics will include the use of harmonic minor, pentatonic scales, adding notes to the pentatonic scale to make them more bluesy, and creating a song in a new way. A classroom piano will also be used briefly for clarity of patterns and chords.
