Besides being sailors, skippers and owners, Jan-Willem and Marielle are also keen walkers. The hikes will be guided by them and there is also the opportunity to enjoy shorter walks on your own if you’d like. The hiking routes on the islands are well- known to us but the weather is god here and we do sometimes have to adjust our itinerary so please use the below itinerary as a guide only! Keep in mind that during the walks (hikes), the nature trails are sometimes more difficult to walk on and you will be hiking in mountainous areas with ascents and descents.
The port town of Oban is a great place to board sailing yacht Steady where her skippers and owners, Jan-Willem and Marielle, will be waiting with tea and cake as you get acquainted with your fellow guests. Set sail that afternoon and find a picturesque anchorage for the night.
ur first stop will be the island of Lismore. The name Lismore comes from Gaelic – Lios Mor – and means the great garden. It is certainly an apt description of this beautiful green island that stretches into the mouth of Loch Linnhe and guards the entrance to the Sound of Mull. Lismore is not very high, but has a rolling and rocky landscape. The views across the water to the mountains of Argyll, Ardnamurchan and Mull are absolutely stunning. We can take a circular walk around the island visiting the main sights. We have lunch during the nature walk from our packed lunch box before heading back to the boat and sailing further into Loch Linnhe. We’ll anchor for the night in the beautiful Loch A Choire.
Head ashore this morning with the dinghy for a pleasant morning walk through the coniferous forest and hills around Kingairloch. The route runs along the boulder-strewn River Ghardail where we may encounter otters and dippers. There is also a chance of seeing birds of prey in the hills so keep your eyes peeled. We make another small diversion to the Ghardaig waterfall before returning to Steady. As the ship pulls anchor, we will sail towards the Sound on Mull as you relax and recover from the walk. The day ends in Loch Aline where we enjoy a healthy and delicious evening meal together.
Set sail to Craignure Bay where we can anchor and take a walk ashore through a woodland with impressive views of Torosay Castle. Once back onboard, we will sail to the colourful harbour town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.
Our next stop is to the colourful town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. We can spend the afternoon exploring the walking trails ashore, sweet local pubs and artisan shops. In the morning we sail to the green paradise island of Kerrera, followed by a hike on the island. Compared to all the hustle and bustle of the nearby tourist centre of Oban, Kerrera is very quiet and offers stunning views of the surrounding coastal areas. Cars are banned on the island except for a few locals, making it a walker’s paradise. In the evening, we enjoy the Captains dinner together before disembarking in Oban in the morning.
