Meeting point at the main gates of Childwall Woods: Childwall Abbey Rd, L16 0JWJoin Brenda Cameron on a guided tour of the Veteran Trees of Childwall Woods!
Once the ornamental gardens of Childwall Hall, Childwall Woods
now has many wonderful reminders of its glory days including rare
variegated oaks and the largest collection of veteran trees in
Merseyside dating back to the 17 th century.
You are invited on a guided walk led by Brenda Cameron exploring some of the oldest and most important trees in Liverpool. We will look at how old a
tree must be to be given the title ‘Notable’, ‘Veteran’ or ‘Ancient’,
and we will explore their importance to our wellbeing and our
environment.
Brenda Cameron is Verifier for The Ancient Tree Inventory (part of the Woodland Trust) and Secretary for Friends of Childwall Woods and Fields, whose focus is the 39-acre, Local Nature Reserve of Childwall Woods and Fields – its biodiversity, sustainability, improvement and protection. They see a future where the natural environment of Childwall Woods and Fields Local Nature Reserve is thriving, respected by visitors and protected for future generations.
This walk is taking place outside, please dress for the weather and bring a waterproof! Please wear comfortable shoes which you don’t mind getting muddy.
Accessibility - The grounds in the wood can be uneven and slippy, this is not suitable for people with pushchairs or wheelchairs. Our guided walks at Sefton Park follow paths, please check out our events page at openeye.org.uk
