Guided Walk: Prime Desert Woodland Preserve

We'll meet in front of the Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center (which is at the entrance to the preserve) and walk the trails from 9AM - 11AM.

Our guide will be Jonathan Numer, Regional Park Superintendent of the Devil's Punchbowl Natural Area for almost 4 years now with knowledge spanning the fields of Geology, Biology and Astronomy.

Restrooms

The nearest restrooms (aside from a Port-a-Potty towards the far West side of the preserve) are over a block away, so plan to stop at a gas station/grocery store/Ph*rm*cy along the way if you need a restroom before the walk. The Elyze Clifford Interpretive Center is lovely and has restrooms, but opens at 10AM.

Prepare

This is also a popular area for birding so you're welcome to bring binoculars for viewing interesting critters such as our cactus wrens in greater detail. The trail is flat with small boardwalk sections over streambeds, wear comfortable walking shoes, layers in case of wind chill, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, water, and trail snacks if you would like.

There is a parking lot within the preserve. Additional parking spots can be found in a turnout found on the right hand side when traveling West along W Ave K-8 or in the surrounding neighborhoods. Check for street sweeping/parking restricted signs in the neighborhood.

From the North: Head South on CA Hwy 14 > Exit 42 for W Ave K > turn Right on W Ave K > in 1.3 mi. turn Left on 30th St W. > in 0.5 mi. turn Right on W Ave K-8 >the entrance to the preserve will be on the Right in 0.5 mi.

From the South: Head North on CA Hwy 14 > Exit 41 for W Ave L > turn Left on W Ave L > in 2.3 mi. turn Right on 35th St W. > the entrance to the preserve will be at the end of the street on the left.
