Join us on Sunday 7th September to walk the Trees In Mind Trail.Since we last had an 'official' team walk, the manhole cover / poem plaque has been placed in Slaithwaite and we have a final plaque now ready to place along the route. We'll be stopping at those two locations alongside all the other poem plaques on the route.
START LOCATION: We will set off at 10am from Cafe Central, Milnsbridge.
If you want a breakfast, join us a bit earlier: the trail team will be there from around 9.00am.
The trail leads up the Colne Valley from Milnsbridge to Marsden and finishes at the WW1 memorial woodland above Butterley Reservoir in Marsden, which was planted by Colne Valley Tree Society in 2015.
The 9.5 mile Trees In Mind Trail between Milnsbridge and Marsden is a mix of townscape, woodland, canalside and agricultural land with some ascents and descents in places.
We pass places of significance for some of the fallen in WW1. And there are lots of great views along the way.
Bring snacks and drinks, but there are some opportunities to get food en route (just don't rely on it). Depending on the forecast, please bring wet weather clothes and stout shoes/boots etc.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
・ A Medium / Hard walk due to terrain and distance – Steep and prolonged uphill and downhill sections, but plenty of stops.
・ Dogs on a lead please.
・Children should be supervised – some stretches are along the canal, paths can be narrow, or on public lanes - so traffic is possible.
・ Wear sensible shoes/clothes. If it’s been wet, likely to be muddy and slippy on stone surfaces. Some are surfaces rough.
・ If you decide to leave before the end please let us know.
・ No toilets on route – please let us know if you need a comfort break so we don’t leave you behind.
・ We will be stopping at each of the 14 plaque sites for a short break and a longer break for lunch. Please bring any snacks you want to have.
・ We’ll have a first aid kit and can do minor first aid.
・ Known allergies? Bee/wasp sting allergic? Please make sure you have suitable medication with you. Let us know (in private if you wish) of any health/mobility issues etc we should be aware of. We can advise on shortcuts and places to opt out if needed.
・Historical facts may be misremembered, feel free to correct us!
