Home of one of the 'Great Twelve', we acquaint ourselves with centuries of art and treasure in this unusual inter-war building.
About this Event

The Worshipful Company of Ironmongers is one of the City of London Great Twelve Livery Companies. Its first charter was granted by King Edward IV in 1463, though its history goes back much further. Famous Ironmongers include Izaak Walton, Sir Robert Geffry and Sir Peter Estlin, Lord Mayor in 2018/19.

Its hall dates from 1925 and is the only Arts and Crafts livery hall within the City. It was the only hall built between the World Wars. Its panelled rooms contain a wealth of fine portraits, William Morris tapestries, a rare sixteenth hearse cloth and a peculiar wooden ‘estridge’.

The tour will be led by Guy Fairbank, who apart from being a long-standing London Historians member, is a Blue Badge Guide, City of London Guide and a Freeman and Liveryman of the City of London. Guy is an award-winning guide, with a wide interest in London’s history, from the City’s livery companies to the hidden delights of West London.
