By popular request, the Milwaukie School of Guitar is continuing to offer more Group Jam Sessions for older learners (Ages 16+). While intended primarily for our enrolled adult students, this event is also open to the general public as well.
Previous events took place offsite, but moving forward the jam sessios will be hosted in-house in our new group space! (Please note this event does take place on the second floor, and there is no elevator - sorry.)
This event is a beginner-friendly jam session facilitated by our guitar instructors, who will give tips before each song, answer questions, provide additional instrumentation when necessary, and keep things running smoothly in general. The event is guitar-focused, but players of other acoustic instruments such as fiddle, banjo, ukulele, mandolin are welcome to attend as well!
Students are expected to bring their own guitar (Acoustic recommended, but electric guitars are welcome if you provide your own amp and be considerate of volume). Students should be able to tune their own guitar and be confident playing the following open chords from memory - A, Am, B7, C, D, E, Em, F, G.
Most of our songs will be chosed from the RISE AGAIN Songbook, so that everyone can play along. Extra copies will be available to borrow or purchase at the event.
This songbook uses a condensed format for writing out songs. Instructions are detailed at the beginning of the book, but you can also find a basic explanation of their notation system in this youtube video:
