The walk involves some steep climbs as well as negotiating steep steps. Please keep this in mind before booking.
Railways, Rivers and Roundheads
A guided two miles tour (taking around two hours) around Whelley, Haigh Plantations, the Douglas Valley, and Bottling Wood which is packed with local history!!!
See the church built in two halves, the shortest-lived railway station, Roger Bradshaigh’s 400-year-old triumph of mining engineering, and the site of a bloody battle between Royalists and Roundheads – and lots more!!!
This is a free activity. Voluntary cash donations can be passed to Jim on the day whcih will be donated to Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
Please meet for an 11.30am prompt start at St Stephen’s Church, Balcarres Avenue, Whelley, WN13UT. There is free on-street parking. The walk will start and finish here.
