You are invited to join this beautiful hike starting at Glencar Lake and walking the ancient Bog Road which zig zags up the side of Glencar Mountain. On reaching the top we will make our way along the edge over looking the stunning Glencar Lake to the highest free falling waterfall in Ireland. It is commonly called "The Devils Chimney" or "Sruth Aigh ar an Airde", which translated literally means "The stream against the height". A unique feature of this waterfall is that at certain times it flows upward due to the up-draught. It is not always guaranteed but always a treat when it occurs. We then hike up to the old Barytes Mining works where we step back in history to learn about the operation of these old mines.
We will have lunch close by before returning back to the lake shore car park via the bog road.
Meet at Glencar Lake car park at 9:30am and return approx 3:00pm
Cost adults 35 euro, under 18's half price.
Difficulty level: Moderate. Well within the reach of most reasonably fit and healthy individuals.
