About this Event
James Mastraieni - The Premise Pyramid
Comedy is a relationship between two variables, reality (situation, relationship, tone) and absurdity (incongruent to that reality). In this class we will spend the entire time on stage practicing four simple ways to configure reality and absurdity in a way that simplifies premise initiations. We will evaluate placement and acting to give the performers confidence in their ability to package a premise that stimulates the shared experience. You’ll leave this workshop much better at initiating from an opening.
James Mastraieni is the founder and director of The Shared Experience Studio. He’s been deeply passionate about comedy since middle school and has over 20 years of professional experience.
He’s toured with Second City, performed regularly at UCBLA and iOWest, and created popular LA comedy shows like “I’m Too Effing High” “How I Met Your Sitcom” “Outside Dog Gets One Star” and “The Shared Experience Show.”
As a writer, he’s contributed to Comedy Central, Funny or Die, and wrote for the sitcom, “Florida Girls.”
