Taarati Taiaroa is visiting Bidjigal and Gadigal Country/ Sydney from Ngāmotu/ New Plymouth 22–26 July and will be delivering a guest lecture on her research/practice to date, Thursday 25 July, 6.00pm at UNSW Galleries.
Taiaroa (Te Atiawa, Ngãti Tuwharetoa, Ngãti Apa) is Assistant Curator of Contemporary Mãori Art at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery Len Lye Centre. Her most recent exhibition is 'Te Hau Whakatonu, A Series of Never-Ending Beginnings, (2023-24) a survey of Toi Mãori from the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery Collection. Her curatorial debut set the foundation for a renewed forward focus for Mäori art programming at the Gallery. Previously, Taarati was Assistant Curator of Mãori Art at Auckland Art Gallery. Her research has focused on Toi Mãori exhibition histories, Mãori Post-minimalism and the ethics of collaborative practice.
