Ohio Northern University Music presents a guest artist recital featuring Ioana Missits, violin and Laura Silverman, piano. The concert is free and open to the public.Missits joined the second violin section of The Cleveland Orchestra in 2000, after serving as a violinist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. She was also a member of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra and the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, and a subsitute with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. In her native country of Romania, Missits performed as a soloist in the National Young Artist Gala in Romania and with the Cluj Philharmonic Orchestra. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in music performance from Bowling Green State University and a Master of music degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Silverman’s career as a pianist and pedagogue spans more than 40 years beginning with her performance with Thor Johnson and the Nashville Symphony when she was 15. She was the accompanist for The Cleveland Orchestra’s Musical Rainbow Educational Department Programs for over 35 years and was principal keyboard of the Blossom Festival Orchestra for many years. Silverman is an in-demand accompanist for Cleveland professional musicians, and has also been extra keyboard with The Cleveland Orchestra, playing with the orchestra in Severance Hall and Carnegie Hall. She studied at The Cleveland Institute of Music with Vitya Vronsky Babin of the internationally renowned duo-piano team, Vronsky and Babin.
