Antonín Dvořák - symphony No. 7 in D minor, Op. 70, B. 141
For the first concert of 2022, the Guernsey Symphony Orchestra are delighted to welcome back guest conductor Colin Metters, until recently Head of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. To begin this exiting programme, the GSO will enter the world of fairies and knights with Weber’s Overture to Oberon. We then welcome the incredible David le Page back to play Bruch’s first violin concerto. Surely one of the most popular concertos in the repertoire, David’s unique sense of creativity will doubtless infuse the concerto with something special. To conclude the concert, the GSO will perform Dvorak’s seventh symphony, showcasing a dark and vehement side of Dvořák not otherwise seen. While the Seventh Symphony was Dvorak’s first to truly embrace and confidently express his Czech voice, Dvořák himself wrote that he hoped “this Czech music will stir the world”.
Concert kindly sponsored by Julius Baer
