Guaranteed Income Works National Tour Features It's Basic Documentary in Tacoma
Join Mayor Victoria Woodards, United Way of Pierce County, and Mayors for a Guaranteed Income for a special community event debuting the results of Tacoma’s GRIT 1.0 guaranteed income pilot and featuring a free screening of the It’s Basic documentary.
The Growing Resilience In Tacoma (GRIT) guaranteed income pilot gifted $500 a month for one year to 110 families in Tacoma who are considered “asset-limited, income-constrained and employed”. These dollars were unconditional and had no strings attached. Independent researchers evaluating the pilot found that working families saw tangible benefits with the guaranteed income, in a forthcoming report scheduled to be released publicly on November 20, 2024.
Come see the results for yourself at a special event on Wednesday, 11/20, featuring a discussion between Mayor Victoria Woodards, Dona Ponepinto of the United Way of Pierce County, and recipients of both GRIT 1.0 and its expansion, GRIT 2.0. After the discussion, there will be a screening of the award-winning film, It’s Basic, which shows how guaranteed income pilots impacted the lives of families across the country. There will also be a “data walk” featuring highlights from the report.
Get ready to be inspired and gain a deeper understanding of the innovative policy work to fight poverty through a guaranteed income. Grab your seats and we’ll see you on November 20th!
