Grupo Niche is a Colombian salsa orchestra formed in 1979, recognized by critics and the public alike as the most successful in Latin America during the last four decades. The award-winning ensemble was founded in Bogotá by the late composer and arranger Jairo Varela Martínez before resettling in the western city of Cali. The group is known for its prominent horn arrangements, up-tempo African rhythms, and hits such as “Cali Pachanguero” and “Una Aventura” that have become standards of the genre. Grupo Niche’s latest album is Niche Sinfónico, recorded with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia and named Best Salsa Album at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards.
