The stakes are higher than ever. The rise of fascism demands a strong, unified response, and it's up to us to build the movement that will fight back and reshape Richmond’s future. We're coming together on January 12th, 2024, to host a “Growing the Movement: Resistance Workshop” a day-long training designed to strengthen our local organizing ecosystem, equip new members with essential skills, and deepen our collective capacity for direct action.
This workshop is inward- and outward-facing, designed to build solidarity, train organizers, and prepare our community for the challenges ahead, especially in the wake of Trump’s election and the escalating political climate. We will develop the tools and strategies to resist fascism, challenge the political status quo, and create a powerful, community-led Richmond.
At the “Growing the Movement: Resistance Workshop,” you can expect to build cross-coalition capacity by collaborating with fellow organizers from local groups to identify shared targets and actions. You’ll be trained in essential skills for resistance, including direct action tactics, security culture, power mapping, and more. The workshop will also give you the opportunity to brainstorm and map out Richmond’s leftist ecosystem, helping you understand where tensions lie and who your allies are. You’ll learn how to strategically plan and execute impactful campaigns, develop your own organizing principles, and put them into action within your community. Engaging in critical conversations around progressive politics, we’ll discuss how to challenge the Democrat status quo in Richmond and prepare to introduce ourselves as a powerful force to the new city council. Additionally, we’ll explore how mutual aid can be integrated into our activism and learn how direct action strategies can lead to real results.
