About this Event
Limited to first 25 participants. Home gardeners are welcome to participate in this hands-on workshop to learn how to grow their own shiitake mushrooms. Participants will learn about shiitake mushrooms, how to select mushroom spawn, what equipment is needed, how to harvest, and how to market. Each participant will incoulate TWO logs to take home and enjoy mushrooms for months to come! The logs are approximately 3 feet in length. There will be volunteers to assist carrying logs to vehicles from the workshop, if needed. There is a $25 supply fee at the door.
This workshop is a partnership between NC Cooperative Extension, Surry County and North Surry High School FFA. The workshop will be held in the Agricultural Building at North Surry High School. The building is in the back of the school campus. There will be a classroom portion and a hands-on portion of the workshop.
All supplies will be provided. Please come prepared to get your hands dirty!
